Physical fitness refers to the body's health, and is the result of regular exercise, proper diet and nutrition and rest for physical recovery.

For us to 'live well' our bodies have to function, and these functions include the cardiovascular system, heart and lungs, skeleton and the muscles.

Along the way you will gain greater strength, endurance, flexibility, improved balance and more often a better frame of mind.

Here's the good news. It's never too late for you to start taking better care of your health and physical fitness.

The guidelines for Physical fitness are a minimum of 3 times per week for 30-60 minutes at moderate intensity, or for those wishing to greatly improve 5 times a week for 60 minutes at increased intensity.

*Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.*

Healthy eating

With lots of talk about fitness, lets not forget the benefits of healthy eating too. The best way to look at the benefits of healthy eating are: "You are what you eat".

We're here to see that those of you who are already involved in the practice of healthy eating are able to master it, but we understand that there are some of you who are not fully aware of the benefits of healthy eating, and need to know first why it's important to put the time and effort necessary into the habit.

Your body needs nutrients to keep it working at it's best. Once you realise this you'll realise that food also effects the mind aswell as the body. You can be sure that you won't get all the nutrients you need from 1 or 2 foods. Our bodies require a range of nutrients to make sure we are getting what we need to live healthily. We just call this "healthy eating".

The good news is that once you adopt healthy eating practices and start paying more attention to what you eat, avoiding unhealthy foods will become second nature to you, and it won't even be that difficult.

So start today and throw the bad food away.

Don't forget that water is a vital part of daily living. We should be drinking 8 large glasses a day. So what are you waiting for. Go and fill up that glass.

*Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going*
